The director-general of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, said the defection of chief Femi Fani-Kayode to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was stalled due to the strong internal democratic culture of the party.
Lukman, who spoke on Friday, February 12, in a statement obtained by the online News medium said Fani-Kayode ”was not welcome to join APC because he doesn’t have the values required to be a member.”
According to him, the former aviation minister tried to manipulate some leaders of the APC but it was botched based on the ground of moral ethics and values.
Lukman said, unlike the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, the ruling party is being guided by moral compass which every member respects.
”The issue of Mr Fani-Kayode’s drifted attempt to join the APC is a clear instance of attempts to manipulate some of our leaders into accepting membership of someone who ought not to have been considered a member of our party.
If that was the case in the past, it is better late than never to correct such a mistake.
Following the report about the controversial attempt by Mr.Femi Fani-Kayode to join the All Progressives Congress and the insistence by many APC members and leaders that Mr. Fani-Kayode is not welcome to join APC because he doesn’t have the values required to be a member.”
Meanwhile, there is a palpable fear among the members of the Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the alleged plan by Governor Seyi Makinde to dump the party for the African Democratic Party (ADC).
Daily Trust reports that the speculation was fuelled on Saturday,February 6, when the governor exited a Whatsapp group where senior officials of the government and some members of the PDP in the state deliberate on cogent issues bordering on governance and politics in the state.
It was reported that Governor Makinde would be joining the ADC as he has been engaging with chieftains of the party like Monsurat Sunmonu, a former speaker in the state to have a smooth defection to ADC.
A PDP chieftain was quoted to have said:
”Yes, you will see, he will soon leave the party. He’s going to ADC. I’m telling you, he will leave the PDP soon.
Reacting to the purported plan by Governor Makinde to leave the PDP, his chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, dismissed as fake news the report that the governor is about to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Premium Times reports that a chieftain of the PDP in the state had said that the switch is imminent but Adisa denied the claim.
He described the news as ”a concocted falsehood from purveyors of fake news, who are bent on maligning the governor at all cost.”
The media aide maintained that contrary to the fake news report, which was published by an online news medium, the governor has no plan to join any other party.
Adisa said the governor has remained a strong pillar of the party for many years and is already leading the mission for its resurgence in the southwest.
He stated that the report in question raised all the red flags of fake news, as it was based on unverifiable claims from an unidentified source.
The CPS added that the attempt to launch the concocted story shortly after some media outfits had tried to exaggerate the governor’s exit from a WhatsApp platform that purportedly belongs to the PDP, is negatively ingenious.
